The development of power supply system in the region
According to archival data the settlement at the cape where Tmaka disgorges into Volga had already existed in IX - X centuries.
In 1127-1135 and in 1160 Tver was first mentioned in non-annalistic veins, and in 1208-1209- in annals.
Over a period of ХIV-ХV centuries Tver competed with Moscow for leadership in the process of assembly of Russian lands. In the middle of the century Tver was one of the main Russia's centers of handicraft industry and international trade, it was famous for skillful builders, gunsmiths, painters.
The famous journey of Afanasiy Nikitin in 1466-1472 was the indicator of the width of foreign trade ties of Tver Principality. In 1485 Tver Principality became a part of Muscovy.
Geography, Climate, Population.
The region stretches for more than 450 km east-west and around 350 km north-south. The population is more than 1,6 million people, three quarters of them is urban population.
To date Tver Region supplies domestic and foreign markets with excavators and carriages, lifts and compression-type machines, country houses, concrete-steel constructions, fiberglass and ceramic tiles, furniture and light fittings, cotton, wool and silk fabrics, complete garments and knitted goods, books and various printed matters.
Economic sectors of the Region
1902 is considered the beginning of Tver energetics, when the first in town "Tver Hydroelectric Station" with capacity of 920 kilowatt was put into operation; it provided electricity supply for trams, water pipelines and houses of town aristocracy.
The energy sector of the Region emerged in compliance with integrated state GOELRO (State Commission for Electrification of Russia) plan of national economy development on the basis of electrification of the country.
In 1912 the first combined heat and power plant at Morozov's textile mill was put into operation (at present organization department of CHPP-1).
CHPP-1 was repeatedly reconstructed and expanded during its operating time. In 1942 after Tver was released from fascists a new electric power station was started-up. The energy sector is one of the leading industries of Tver Region. There are Kalininskaya Nuclear Power Plant and Konakovskaya State District Power Station on the territory of the Region.
Tver Central Administrative Board PJSC TGC-2 includes: Tver CHPP-1, CHPP-2, CHPP-4, Vyshnevolotskaya CHPP, Kamenskaya boiler plant and Tver heat network enterprise.
