Yaroslavl Region
According to legend, Yaroslavl was founded in 1010 by the prince Yaroslav the Wise.
First annalistic reference about the town was in the "Tale of Bygone years" in connection with large uprisal of slaves in 1071. In 1238 after Tatar invasion the town was destroyed. In 1380 Yaroslavl armed forces participated in Kulikov Battle. During the struggle with Polish and Swedish intervention in 1612 Yaroslavl was temporary capital of Russia, where people's volunteer corps under command of Minin and Pozharsky were formed.
Main Yaroslavl handicrafts are tanning, soap manufacturing, fishing, and trade. The maximum prosperity Yaroslavl achieved in XVII century. At that time many Russia's greatest monuments of architecture were built Church of - Elijah The Prophet, The Church of John the Baptist and others. In 1750 the first in Russia private provincial theatre was founded by F. Volkov.
An the end of XVIII century a monument of old Russian literature "Lay of Igor's Warfare" - was found in Transfiguration monastery. Many names of famous figures are connected with Yaroslavl: - actor F. G. Volkov, poet N. A. Nekrasov, pedagogue K. D. Ushinsky, painter A. K. Savrasov, sculptor A. M. Opekushin, opera singer L. V.Sobinov, world's first spacewoman V. N. Tereshkova. Yaroslavl is one of the gems of the Golden Ring of Russia. Historical center of the city is in the custody of UNESCO. In 2010 Yaroslavl will celebrate its 1000th anniversary. 20 large capital investment projects with foreign partners to the amount of 1.6 millions euros are planned for realization due to 1000th anniversary of Yaroslavl.
Geography. Climate. Population
Yaroslavl Region, created on March 11, 1936 is a part of Central Federal District. The area of the Region is 36.2 thousands square km. The advantage of geographical location is the closeness to Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, and location on Volga. The population of the Region is 1368 thousands people. The climate is temperate continental. Average summer temperature is 18 C above zero; average winter temperature is 10 C below zero.
Economic sectors of the Region
Yaroslavl Region is the industrial center with developed machine building, chemical, petrochemical, oil-refining, light and food industries, construction and research and development field.
Yugoslavl Region industry percentage in correlation with Russian Federation industry - 1,2%. Vegetable growing, flax cultivating, dairy and beef husbandry, pig husbandry, sheep husbandry and fishery are prevailing in agricultural sector.
The development of power supply system in the region
At present Yaroslavl power supply system includes 3 heat and power plants (CHPP-1, CHPP-2, and CHPP-3), 2 boiler plants (Lyapinskaya and Teninskaya boiler-plant), 3 electric network enterprises and one heat network enterprise (Yaroslavl Heat Networks), sales and repair departments and a car pool. All CHPPs and boiler plants are located in Yaroslavl. CHPP-1 is the first heat and power plant in Yaroslavl, it was built in 1934; CHPP-3 is the "youngest" heat and power plant: in 1961 the first turbine was launched. CHPP-2, because of installation of a new turbo unit on March 15, 2007, within the framework of approved investment program, increased its installed capacity by 55%.
The transmission and heat networks (238 km long) in Yaroslavl are on the balance of Yaroslavl Central Administrative Board of PJSC TGC-2.
